About Maroochy River
Maroochy River is a rural hinterland locality in the Sunshine Coast Region of Queensland, located 123 kilometres north of Brisbane along the Maroochy River. The name Maroochy is from the Kabi language muru-kutchi meaning red bill referring to the black swan. The river meanders west to east through the locality with river flats cleared for farmland and hillsides used for residential development with bushland. Dunethin Rock and the Tramway Lift Bridge over the Maroochy River are heritage-listed. Coolum Creek Environmental Reserve and Mount Ninderry are notable features. Maroochy River State School operated from 1911 to 1972 and its site is now the Dunethin Rock Scout campground.
