About Mutchilba

Mutchilba is a town and locality in the Shire of Mareeba in Far North Queensland, on the Atherton Tableland about 34 km west of Mareeba. The Tablelands railway line passes through the town, and its railway station, named in 1923 using an Aboriginal word meaning 'big dead tree', gave the locality its name. The town was surveyed in 1955 as part of the Mareeba-Dimbulah irrigation area and is a centre for mango growing, hosting an annual Mango Mardi Gras.
