About Mount Surprise

Mount Surprise is a small town in the Gulf Savannah of far north Queensland, founded in 1864 on the site of an 1880s gold rush and later a cattle trucking centre. The heritage-listed Mount Surprise railway station is a key remnant of the Etheridge railway line, and the town serves as a base for visitors to the Undara Lava Tubes and Cobbold Gorge.
