About Charleville
Charleville is a rural town and locality in the Shire of Murweh, Queensland, located on the Warrego River at the terminus of the Warrego Highway, 747 kilometres west of Brisbane. Established in 1865 and probably named after Charleville in County Cork, Ireland, the town was laid out by William Alcock Tully, later Surveyor General of Queensland. Attractions include the Royal Flying Doctor Service Visitor Centre, the Charleville Cosmos Centre, a WWII Secret Base, and the Charleville Bilby Experience, a captive breeding program for the greater bilby. The town is also served by Charleville Airport and The Westlander rail service to Brisbane.
