About Scarborough (Qld)
Scarborough is a coastal suburb at the northern tip of the Redcliffe Peninsula in the City of Moreton Bay, Queensland, bounded by Deception Bay to the northwest and Moreton Bay to the north and east. Named after the English seaside resort in North Yorkshire, the area was first subdivided as a marine township in 1878 and experienced rapid growth after the Hornibrook Highway opened in 1935. Scarborough Beach, voted Australia's Friendliest Beach in 2004, is a popular swimming destination along the eastern coastline. The suburb is noted for its seafood industry centred on Scarborough Boat Harbour and its main street, Landsborough Avenue, offers dining with views across Moreton Bay to Moreton Island.
