About The Leap
The Leap is a coastal rural locality in the Mackay Region of Queensland, about 23 kilometres north-west of Mackay along the Bruce Highway. The locality is named after a cliff on Mount Mandarana where, in the 1860s, an Aboriginal woman is believed to have leapt to her death to evade capture by the Queensland Native Police. The area supports sugarcane farming and contains a section of Pioneer Peaks National Park.
