About Mount Jukes
Mount Jukes is a coastal rural locality about 41 kilometres north-west of Mackay, bounded by the Coral Sea to the east. The 547-metre mountain is formed from igneous rock of volcanic activity around 32 million years ago, and the south-western section falls within a national park. Named by George Dalrymple in 1862 after geologist Joseph Beete Jukes, the area supports sugarcane farming with cane tramways to Mackay Sugar mills.
