About Suttor
Suttor is a remote pastoral locality in the Isaac Region of Central Queensland, named after the Suttor River which explorer Ludwig Leichhardt identified on 7 March 1845 during his Moreton Bay to Port Essington expedition. The Suttor River forms the western boundary and Suttor Creek the southern boundary, with an open-cut coal mine situated in the south of the locality. Apart from mining, the principal land use is cattle grazing across open eucalypt woodland, and the Newlands railway system traverses the area connecting to the coal port at Abbot Point.
