About Sarina
Sarina is a rural town on the Bruce Highway in the Mackay Region of Queensland, at Plane Creek in the foothills of the Connors Range, about 30 km south of Mackay. It takes its name from Sarina Inlet, named in 1869 by surveyor William Wilson. The town grew around the Plane Creek sugar mill, which began crushing in 1896, and the settlement was renamed Sarina in 1907. Sugar growing is still the district's main industry.
