About Preston (Whitsunday - Qld)

Preston is a rural locality in the Whitsunday Region, about 12 kilometres east of Proserpine, bounded by the Proserpine River to the west and south. The lower western land supports sugarcane with a cane tramway to the local mill, while higher land is used for grazing on native vegetation. The town of Bonavista sits within the south of the locality, and Cape Conway, for which the original town was named, was charted by James Cook in 1770.
