About Mount Wyatt
Mount Wyatt is a vast remote rural locality in the Whitsunday Region of Queensland, located about 355 kilometres south of Townsville and 1,246 kilometres north-northwest of Brisbane. The landscape is dominated by the Burdekin Dam, Burdekin River, and multiple mountain peaks including Mount Wyatt at 456 metres, with predominant land use being grazing on native vegetation. The Mount Wyatt goldfield was one of the earliest known in Queensland, with alluvial gold first discovered in 1868 and reported by Richard Daintree, and the Sunbeam Mine operated from 1891 to 1923 extracting gold, silver, lead, and copper.
