About Collinsville (Qld)
Collinsville is a mining town and locality in the Whitsunday Region of Queensland, Australia, located 87 kilometres south-west of Bowen in the Bowen Basin. Known originally as Moongunya, an Aboriginal word for coal, the town was renamed Collinsville in 1921 after Member of Parliament Charles Collins. Coal mining began in 1919 and remains the economic mainstay. It features a mining heritage centre and the Bowen Consolidated Colliery heritage site.
