About Middlemount

Middlemount is a coal-mining town in the Isaac Region of Central Queensland, nicknamed the "Giant Peanut" for its peanut-shaped road layout. Built rapidly in the early 1980s, it serves as an accommodation hub for workers at the surrounding coal mines, including German Creek and the record-setting Grasstree underground mine. Former residents include Olympic cyclists Anna Meares and Kerrie Meares.
