About Bowen
Bowen is a coastal town and locality on the north-east coast of Queensland in the Whitsunday Region, at twenty degrees south of the equator. Renamed for the colony's first governor, Sir George Bowen, it was once forecast as the capital of a new North Queensland colony, an ambition still visible in its wide central streets and exacting road grid.
