About Blacks Beach
Blacks Beach is a coastal suburb located approximately 10 kilometres north of central Mackay in the Mackay Region, Queensland. It is named after Maurice Hume Black, a sugar planter and Queensland politician who operated The Cedars sugar plantation from 1871 before settling on the coast. The suburb is known for its continuous six-kilometre sandy beach, the longest in the Mackay region, stretching from rocky headlands at Dolphin Heads to McCready's Creek. Popular for swimming, fishing, and watersports, it offers views toward the Cumberland Islands. The coastal habitat supports migratory shorebirds, marine turtles, and critically endangered beach scrub vegetation.
