About Pine Mountain (Qld)
Pine Mountain is a semi-rural locality in the City of Ipswich, Queensland, located 12 kilometres northwest of the Ipswich central business district. The mountain was originally named Pine Ridge by explorer John Oxley on 21 September 1824 and later became Pine Mountain, with the locality taking its name from the mountain. In 1824, Oxley and Allan Cunningham met a friendly elderly Aboriginal man fishing near Upper Blackwall who guided them across the river and to the foot of Pine Mountain. By the 1850s, loggers arrived for the abundant hoop pine timber. The Brisbane Valley railway line was established in 1884 and is now disused. Pine Mountain reaches 233 metres. The locality is bounded by the Brisbane River to the north and east, the Warrego Highway to the south and the Brisbane Valley Highway to the south-west.
