About Mungindi (Qld)
Mungindi is a rural town and locality straddling the Barwon River, which marks the border between Queensland and New South Wales, on the Carnarvon Highway. The name is a Kamilaroi word meaning waterhole in the river, and the town is one of the few border towns in the Southern Hemisphere to have the same name on both sides of the state line. The Queensland part of the locality has been an important cotton, beef and wheat producing district, served by a railway from New South Wales between 1914 and 1974.
