About Gunnewin

Gunnewin is a rural locality in the Maranoa Region of Queensland, located approximately 17 kilometres south of Injune along the Carnarvon Highway. The name derives from an Aboriginal word meaning ringtailed possum or possum trap. Gunnewin was once a thriving small town serving returned soldier settlers under the Mount Hutton Lands Soldier Settlement Scheme after World War I, and a sandstone memorial commemorating those settlers stands at the old rail siding.
