About The Keppels
The Keppels is an off-shore locality in the Shire of Livingstone, Queensland, covering the Keppel Islands in the Coral Sea off the coast from Yeppoon. The island group was named by James Cook in 1770 after Admiral Augustus Keppel, and is the traditional country of the Woppaburra people. Great Keppel Island, the largest of the group, is surrounded by 27 kilometres of beaches and lies within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.
