About South Trees
South Trees is a coastal industrial suburb of Gladstone, Queensland, fronting the Auckland Channel, a waterway separated from the Coral Sea by Facing Island. The suburb takes its name from South Trees Point, named by Matthew Flinders aboard HMS Investigator during his circumnavigation of Australia. It is home to the Queensland Alumina Limited refinery, opened at Parsons Point in 1967 and one of the largest alumina plants in the world.
