About South Gladstone

South Gladstone is a residential and industrial suburb of Gladstone, Queensland, centred around the former Parsons Point frozen meat works established in 1895. The area grew as workers housing for the meatworks and later the Queensland Alumina refinery, with South Gladstone State School opening in 1898 and the suburb developing through the 1960s and 1970s.
