About Gladstone Harbour
Gladstone Harbour is an offshore locality in the Gladstone Region of Queensland, made up of the harbour waters between the mainland and Facing Island, with the three small settlements of Northcliffe, Farmers Point and Gatcombe on the island. Facing Island was named by Matthew Flinders during his 1802 voyage on HMS Investigator. The harbour was briefly the seat of the proposed colony of North Australia in 1847, and the locality takes its name from the harbour, named for the British statesman William Ewart Gladstone.
