About Gindie
Gindie is a rural locality in the Central Highlands Region of Queensland, south of Emerald in the Brigalow Belt. The name means "much brigalow" in the local Aboriginal language. Established in the late 1890s around wheat cultivation and experimental farming at the Gindie State Farm, the area is traversed by the Gregory Highway and the Blackwater railway line, with Lake Maraboon lying partly within its boundaries.
