About Comet
Comet is a rural town at the confluence of the Comet and Nogoa Rivers on the Capricorn Highway in the Central Highlands, about 41 kilometres east-south-east of Emerald. The oldest town in the Emerald area, it was named after the river which Ludwig Leichhardt named after observing Comet Wilmot in December 1844. The Leichhardt Dig Tree, a coolibah trunk marked with DIG L in 1847, is displayed in a purpose-built shelter, and the Comet Tales and Walking Trails feature 16 historical sites.
