About Cracow
Cracow is a rural town in the Shire of Banana in central Queensland, with a history shaped by gold mining. The town, named after the Polish city of Kraków, became a thriving mining centre in the 1930s when the Golden Plateau mine began operating; it produced almost 20,000 kilograms of gold before closing in 1976. At its peak the town had five cafes, two butchers, a picture theatre and a soft drink factory, but it became almost a ghost town after the mine closed.
