About Canoona
Canoona is a vast and sparsely settled rural locality in the Livingstone Shire, approximately 35 kilometres north-north-west of Rockhampton. It was the site of the first North Australian gold rush in 1858, when alluvial gold discoveries drew large numbers of prospectors before the rush subsided and Canoona returned to its pastoral character.
