About Wairuna
Wairuna is a remote locality on the tablelands about 80 km south of Mount Garnet in the Cairns region of Far North Queensland, in the watershed of the upper Burdekin River. It is dominated by open forest, woodland and riverine plains, and is the site of the historic Wairuna cattle station, operated by the Atkinson family from 1881 to 1976, whose homestead and cemetery are heritage-listed.
