About Mourilyan

Mourilyan is a rural town and locality in the Cassowary Coast Region of Queensland, about 9 kilometres south of Innisfail. The harbour was named in 1872 by Captain John Moresby after a lieutenant on his ship, and the town grew around the Mourilyan sugar mill, built in 1882 and one of the oldest in Australia. The mill closed after Cyclone Larry in 2006, and the town is now home to the Australian Sugar Industry Museum.
