About Mount Garnet

Mount Garnet is a small rural town in the Tablelands Region of tropical north Queensland, situated approximately 180 kilometres south-west of Cairns. The town is surrounded by tin mining country and grazed land on the Herbert River highlands, and was established during the tin mining boom of the 1880s and 1890s. Mount Garnet serves as a service centre for the surrounding mining and pastoral district, with the landscape characterised by open eucalypt woodland and granite outcrops of the Herbert River highlands.
