About Tarragindi

Tarragindi is a residential suburb about six kilometres south of central Brisbane, on the traditional land of the Jagera people. The area was first known as Sandy Creek, after the watercourse that runs from Toohey Mountain, and was formally renamed Tarragindi in 1931. The new name came from Tarra Gindi Tasserone, a South Sea Islander from the Loyalty Islands who lived and worked in the district in the late 1800s and suggested the name, said to mean camp on a hill.
