About Deagon
Deagon is a residential suburb located 18 kilometres north of the Brisbane central business district on the traditional lands of the Turrbal people. Named after William Deagon, Mayor of Sandgate from 1882 to 1884, the locality was established when its railway station opened in 1887 on the Sandgate line. Bounded to the south by Cabbage Tree Creek, the suburb adjoins the Boondall Wetlands, which provide important habitat for migratory bird species. Deagon Racecourse, established in the 1880s, remains a significant thoroughbred training facility. The Evergreen Ching Chung Taoist Temple, built in 1991, is a notable landmark near the Gateway Motorway.
