About Kalinga
Kalinga is a residential suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, located 9.7 kilometres north-northeast of the Brisbane central business district in the Hamilton Ward. The name derives from the Aboriginal word Ngalinnga, probably from the Yuggera language Turrbal dialect, meaning belonging to us. The area was the original residence of Justice Alfred Lutwyche at Kedron Lodge and the Kedron Park Estate was auctioned in 1888. Kalinga was only officially gazetted as a suburb on 16 October 2015, having been excised from Wooloowin following requests from local residents. The suburb is home to the heritage-listed Kalinga Park with memorial gates opened in 1920 designed by Andrew Lang Petrie commemorating World War I service, and St Anne's Catholic Church, a Spanish-style building opened in 1935 seating 500.
