About Wagaman
Wagaman is a residential suburb of Darwin in the Northern Territory, located 14 kilometres from the Darwin central business district on the traditional Country and waterways of the Larrakia people. Named after the Wagiman Aboriginal tribe from the Pine Creek area in the Katherine Region, the suburb was developed primarily during the 1970s with much of the area built before Cyclone Tracy struck in 1974 causing severe damage. Wagaman is one of Darwin's most culturally diverse suburbs with significant communities from Greece, the Philippines, Nepal, India and Timor-Leste. Greek is the most common non-English language spoken at home at 9.8 percent. The suburb is bounded by Vanderlin Drive, Lee Point Road, Parer Drive and Trower Road.
