About Lyons (NT)
Lyons is a northern suburb of Darwin in the Northern Territory, located 16 kilometres from the Darwin central business district on the traditional lands and waterways of the Larrakia people. Gazetted on 7 July 2004, the suburb was previously part of Lee Point and was named in commemoration of Tommy Imabulg Lyons, a traditional owner and senior man for the Danggalaba clan of the Larrakia people. Tommy was a member of the Black Watch and worked as a police tracker, living most of his life on the Cox Peninsula, Dum In Mirrie Island and Indian Islands in Bynoe Harbour until his death in 1978. The suburb is bordered by Lee Point to the north, Muirhead to the east, Tiwi to the southeast and Leanyer to the southwest. The suburb had a population of 2,302 at the 2016 census.
