About Johnston
Johnston is a northern suburb of Palmerston in the Northern Territory, located 22 kilometres southeast of the Darwin central business district and 3 kilometres from the Palmerston Town Centre. On the traditional Country of the Larrakia people, the suburb was registered on 3 April 2007 and named after Commodore Eric Eugene Johnston AO OBE, Northern Territory Administrator from 1981 to 1989. One of Palmerston's newest suburbs, it is divided by Farrar Boulevard into two estates: Johnston The Parks to the west and Johnston Ridge to the north. MacKillop Catholic College is the local secondary school. Palmerston itself was developed as a planned satellite city to Darwin after the devastation of Cyclone Tracy in 1974.
