About Thirlmere
Thirlmere is a semi-rural town in the Macarthur region of New South Wales, about 89 km south-west of the Sydney central business district. The town grew around the railway: it lies on the old Picton–Mittagong loop line, which opened in 1867, was bypassed by the main southern line in 1919, and carried its last trains in the 1970s. The New South Wales Rail Museum, with its large collection of historic locomotives, is based in the town.
