About Curlwaa
Curlwaa is a small irrigation settlement on the New South Wales side of the Murray River, a few kilometres upstream of Wentworth. It was the first government irrigation scheme in New South Wales, established in 1890. The name comes from the Aboriginal word for the quandong, or native peach, and dried fruit from the area was once branded 'Curlwaa'. The historic single-lane Abbotsford Bridge, opened in 1928, spans the Murray between Curlwaa and Yelta in Victoria.
