About Hungerford (NSW)
Hungerford is a remote locality in the far north-west of New South Wales, in Bourke Shire, forming the southern half of the outback border town of Hungerford that straddles the New South Wales-Queensland boundary. The town grew beside the intermittent Paroo River on a stock route to the Queensland channel country, and the dingo fence that marks the state border runs through it. The post office once stood on the New South Wales side of the street, as Henry Lawson recorded in his 1890s short story 'Hungerford'.
