About Fords Bridge
Fords Bridge is a remote outback village in north-western New South Wales in Bourke Shire, 824 kilometres north-west of Sydney and 67.5 kilometres west of Bourke. In its earliest records, around 1880, it was known as Fords Crossing. The district's first significant private venture was the Salmon Ford Hotel, licensed in 1873 to Michael McAuliffe and later transferred to Robert Ford and Arrowsmith in 1879. The writer Henry Lawson lived and worked in the area.
