About Maitland Bar
Maitland Bar is a remote locality in the Mid-Western Regional Council of New South Wales, about 38 kilometres south-west of Mudgee on the banks of the Meroo River, just north of the gold-rush town of Hargraves. The district was part of the Hargraves goldfield, and the locality shares its name with the famous Maitland Bar gold nugget, a 10.7-kilogram nugget discovered nearby on Meroo Creek in 1887.
