About Kiacatoo
Kiacatoo is a locality in western New South Wales, on the Lachlan River in the Lachlan Shire about 40 kilometres west of Condobolin. The name is the Wiradjuri name for this part of the Lachlan Valley, where a stretch of river flats and pastoral country supports wheat and grazing. It is the site where the ancient Aboriginal remains known as Kiacatoo Man were found in a natural river levee and excavated in 2011 with Wiradjuri community involvement. The locality was served by a station on the Broken Hill railway line from 1919 until 1976, of which only the wheat silos remain.
