About Dog Rocks
Dog Rocks is a locality in the Oberon district of the Central Tablelands of New South Wales, in the rugged bushland of the Abercrombie Ranges. It is named after the rocks where native dogs were said to live, and the outcrop served as a lookout for bushrangers in the mid-1800s, including the gang of Ben Hall, who held Assistant Commissioner Keightly there until a ransom was paid.
