About Cargo

Cargo is a small town in the Cabonne Shire of central western New South Wales, situated approximately 35 kilometres south-west of Orange on the foothills of Mount Canobolas. The village developed rapidly after the discovery of alluvial gold in Long Gully in 1868, which attracted around 500 prospectors and led to the proclamation of the Cargo goldfield in 1869. Today the village retains its historic character and serves as a quiet rural community within the broader Cabonne region.
