About Nelligen

Nelligen is a historic village on the western bank of the Clyde River on the South Coast of New South Wales, about eight kilometres west of Batemans Bay on the Kings Highway. It pre-dates Batemans Bay and was once a busy port servicing Braidwood farming and the Araluen goldfields, with ships carrying wool, gold and timber to Sydney via the Illawarra Steam Navigation Company. The port declined after coastal bridges were built, and the current Nelligen Bridge opened in February 2023.
