About Deakin
Deakin is an established residential suburb in the South Canberra district of the Australian Capital Territory, located approximately six kilometres south-southwest of the Canberra CBD. Gazetted on 20 September 1928, the suburb was named after Alfred Deakin, the second Prime Minister of Australia, with streets named after Governors, Governors-General and diplomats. Deakin is home to several significant national institutions including The Lodge, the official residence of the Prime Minister, the Royal Australian Mint which opened in 1965, and numerous foreign embassies and high commissions.
