About Chifley (ACT)
Chifley is a residential suburb in the Woden Valley district of Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, established on 12 May 1966 as one of the original Woden Valley settlements. Named after Joseph Benedict Chifley, Prime Minister of Australia from 1945 to 1949, the suburb's streets are named after scientists and educationalists. Backed by the Mount Taylor Nature Reserve which is part of Canberra Nature Park, Chifley is bordered by Hindmarsh Drive and Melrose Drive. The 2003 Canberra bushfires reached Mount Taylor but did not significantly impact the suburb.
