About Gormanston
Gormanston is a small mining town in the West Coast region of Tasmania, situated on the Lyell Highway approximately 30 kilometres south-east of Queenstown in the rugged mountain terrain of the West Coast Range. The town was established in the late nineteenth century to service the Mount Lyell mining operations and retains its character as a remote mountain settlement. Gormanston sits within the dramatic landscape of the West Coast mountains, with the nearby town of Queenstown providing services and the surrounding area featuring dense temperate rainforest and the legacy of the region's mining heritage.
