About Queenstown (Tas.)
Queenstown is a mining town in the steep, forested hills of Tasmania's west coast, at the head of the King River. The town grew from the Mount Lyell copper field, which began with the Iron Blow discovery in 1882 and was developed from 1892 by the Mount Lyell Mining and Railway Company, whose pyritic smelting method made the district's low-grade ores profitable. Queenstown flourished in the early 1900s.
