About Guluguba
Guluguba is a rural town and locality in the Western Downs Region of Queensland, situated on the Leichhardt Highway between Miles and Wandoan. The name is thought to be an Aboriginal word meaning squatter pigeon. The locality was shaped by the arrival of the Wandoan railway line in 1913-14, which established Guluguba as a rail siding and service point for the surrounding pastoral district. St John's Lutheran church, opened in 1931 by German settlers from South Australia, reflects the community's strong Lutheran heritage, and the former Guluguba State School operated from 1917 until its eventual closure.
