About Leyburn

Leyburn is a rural town on the Darling Downs in Queensland, in a locality spanning the Southern Downs and Toowoomba regions. Originally known as Canal Creek, it was renamed for the market town of Leyburn in Yorkshire. A World War II era airfield south of the town hosted the 1949 Australian Grand Prix, the first time the race was held in Queensland, and the annual Leyburn Sprints celebrates that heritage with historic racing cars racing through the town.
